The Platform Experience group in the Rackspace Solutions and Strategy (RSS) organization is looking for talented new developers with passion for modern web development standards.
As a developer in our team, you will be responsible for performing development activities on cutting-edge applications that deliver innovative outcomes to our customers. You will leverage the best of modern cloud native components, building solutions that are operationally robust and impressively scalable.

About Platform Experience
Platform Experience at Rackspace Technology has two main areas of product & delivery responsibility.
  • Customer facing surfaces, such as auth, ticketing, billing and account management experiences.
  • A set of innovative enablement services that help other engineering teams get products to market faster.
We are the interaction point between customers, and the products and services that Rackspace Technology provides.

How We Work
Our customer and internal-facing platforms are powered by microservices, including event-driven and HTTP APIs. Our services are fronted with a suite of modern JavaScript applications. We own the full stack of each service from application logic to infrastructure and we are operationally responsible for the services we run. We practice continuous integration and delivery, deploying our services to production hundreds of times a day.
We continuously evaluate new technologies to assess their fit within our solutions, so a strong desire to learn is a must. Experience with the technologies we work with today is a plus but not essential. We are committed to delivering excellence and every team member has to be comfortable taking ownership of the quality of their applications through testing to production.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the design, development and operation activities of applications/ features.
Document, organize, and prioritize feature requests and bug reports.
Review, test, debug, and comment on task deliverables.
Provide operational application support.
Investigate new technologies, tools and processes and make recommendations for adoption.
Coordinate, communicate and provide technical support to other functional groups relating to web application development and support.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
Designs and develops software for large-scale enterprise services.
Responsibilities include:
§ Translating functional requirements into conceptual and detailed designs.
§ Providing estimates for development effort.
§ Implementing proof of concept, prototypes and production-grade software.
§ Creating unit and acceptance tests.
§ Coordinating sign-off from QA/Test.
§ Automating deployment.
§ Assisting Operations and Support staff in trouble-shooting software issues, as well as, implementing bug fixes.
§ Depending on the assignment and level of responsibility, expertise, or working knowledge in multiple programming languages, technologies, and software platforms.
§ Adheres to established coding and process best practices.
§ Makes regular contribution to engineering standards and best practices.
§ Initiates ideas and actions that result in indirect benefits.
§ Constantly trains and improves self to attain higher quality output.
Job Complexity
§ Designs robust, scalable, secure, and globalized feature.
§ Identifies risks and mitigation for own feature area.
§ Effectively manages dependencies for own feature area.
§ Efficiently implements own feature area with minimal technical debt.
§ Feature areas are easy to deploy and maintainable.
§ Feature areas are bug free. Includes unit tests for own feature areas to achieve established code coverage targets.
§ Feature areas are test-driven designed, enabling efficient regression testing.
§ Makes regular contribution to test automation.
§ Formulates new and alternate ideas, approaches, and designs to evolve own feature area or to solve problems encountered in own feature area.
§ Focuses on a specific feature area or component.
§ Influences functionalities that make broad contribution to our product and service offerings
SUPERVISION
Works autonomously or under minimal supervision and mentorship.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY
§ General knowledge in at least one technology relevant to current assignment.
§ Advanced working knowledge of JavaScript (React).
§ Intermediate to advanced knowledge on backend development is a plus.
§ Demonstrates a systematic structured problem-solving approach.
§ Ability to generalize a specific problem and derive solution for a class of problems.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
§ Bachelor’s degree in a technology related field is required.
§ At the manager’s discretion, additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
§ Typically requires 3 to 6 years of experience in software development, engineering, testing, or a related field.
§ Solid software engineering fundamentals gained through training, course work or relevant experience.
